Any time we are finding ourselves in the predicaments of life, it is important to take a step back and then take a breather.

This is important for a number of different reasons, both from a therapeutic standpoint and from a medical standpoint. As the head of a biotechnology research organization, it is my job to assess the long-term effects that certain lifestyles have on individuals and on families. The results are somewhat surprising, and they suggest that many of us are doing it wrong on a daily basis.

What we really need to do more is to have a better perspective on life. People do not live to the age of 35 anymore and the fact that we can extend our lives into the 90s and beyond means that there will inevitably be many more biotech complications that will need to be dealt with and understood.

The field of biotechnology is not only for the academics. We need to learn how to use science and medicine to keep our families healthy over the long-term. This does not mean that we can simply go with the latest diet fads or something like that. It takes research and patience, and we must remember that biotech health topics can be understood by anyone.
