There's something to reading that is simply amazing. As my son gazes at the turning pages of a book, I can see his mind drifting off into a world that the words and pictures take him to. I simply sit enjoying his wonder, and the minutes I get to sit next to him as it is literally the only time my son will sit still!!
Since birth, I have sat and read many books to him such as "Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss, to "Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown, and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. What was so amazing about that, was before he was able to talk, all I had to do was repeat a phrase found in one of the many books I read to him, and he was able to walk over to the book shelf and pick out the book.
We have now gotten to a stage where my son absolutely loves reading! So not only do I get to perfect my reading skills, I get a few extra breaks to sit down with him and enjoy an adventure we embark on together every time those pages turn.
As much as we love to read all the books we come across, we have a love for all of Dr. Seuss. I'm not sure if it's the rhymes, the whimsical turning twirling tongue-twisters, pictures, or the beats I drop when I'm reading the rhymes (oh yes, I'm tempted to set up a mini recording studio in our playroom). But whatever it is, these books sure do keep us entertained, even after reading the same "Cat In The Hat" five times within a few hours.
I have just about memorized the books, and so has my son. Even to the point where if I leave out a word or say a different word (hey, my eyes get heavy for bedtime reading) he definitely doesn't forget to remind me that I said it wrong.
But whichever books my littles decide to love, I know that I'm going to cherish every second I get to spend taking many page-turning adventures with them.
So if you'll excuse me, my personal Thing ONE and Thing TWO are waiting for me to turn the page so that we can have 'Lots of Good Fun that is Funny".
