Pulled pork in a crock pot tends to taste bland to me. The root beer sauce takes this to another level. Pork sirloin is used as it is very lean and doesn't make for a meal of spitting out chunks of fat.
Pulled Pork with Root Beer Sauce
Ingredients
- 1- 2 ½ to 3 pound pork sirloin roast
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cup root beer
- 1 bottle chili sauce
- hot pepper sauce (optional)
- hamburger buns (optional)
Preparation
- Trim any fat from the meat if desired.
- Place meat in slow cooker and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Add onion, garlic, and 1 cup root beer.
- Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 8-10 hours or on high-heat setting for 4-5 hours.
- For the sauce, combine 3 cups of root beer and the bottle of chili sauce in a sauce pan over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, or until mixture is reduced to 2 cups, stirring occasionally.
- If desired, add hot pepper sauce.
- Transfer the meat to a cutting board and shred using 2 forks.
- Place the meat in a large bowl. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the onions to the meat.
- Discard the cooking juices. Pour the root beer sauce onto the pork and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve on a hamburger bun, or eat alone.
