An apple dessert that is easy enough for children to create and to build cooking confidence, but yet can also be a show stopper. This old fashioned dessert has a wonderful rich flavor of apples and cinnamon that will leave you wanting more.
Virginia Apple Pudding
Prep Time: 15 min Cooking Time: 45 minIngredients
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup sifted flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ - ½ teaspoon cinnamon, or more to taste
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups fresh apple slices or chunks, frozen or canned - Use a good pie apple such as Cortland, Macintosh, Granny, etc...that will provide a good tart flavor and hold shape.
Preparation
- Melt butter in a casserole dish. The dish MUST have deep sides - I have a corning ware dish with 3" sides - the batter will bake up around the filling and form a wonderful buttery breading crust.
- Combine the next 6 ingredients in a bowl to make a batter.
- Pour the batter onto the middle of the melted butter - DO NOT MIX
- Drain the apples of juice (I use my apples from the freezer which will have juices) and PILE in the center of the batter - which is in the center of the butter.
- Bake in a 375 degree oven until the batter covers the fruit and the crust browns, about 40-45 minutes.

YUMMMMM!
Makes 4-6 servings. We like a little ice cream, whipping cream, or just simply cream on top of this dessert to dress.
My wonderful Father found this recipe many years ago on a calendar from a bank.
Thank you for considering this recipe in your contest.
Take care.
