I grew up in the south and Derby parties were a family tradition. Though this pie is an authentic old southern family recipe, I believe people from all over the country will enjoy this decadent, rich desert which has delighted our family for generations.

Kentucky Derby Pie

  • Servings: ⅛" pie
  • Yield: 8 servings
  • Prep Time: 15 min
  • Cooking Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 1 deep dish pie crust (refrigerated prepared crust will work)
  • 3 egggs
  • ½ cup butter (margarine or other substitute will not work)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • ¼ cup Kentucky Bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • pinch salt

Preparation

  1. Place prepared refrigerated crust in 9" deep dish pie plate
  2. Beat softened butter with sugar, flour and salt
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time until batter is smooth
  4. Beat in corn syrup until smooth
  5. Stir in vanilla and bourbon until well combined
  6. Place chocolate chips and pecan halves in bottom of pie crust
  7. Pour batter over the pecans and chips
  8. Place pie in oven which has been pre-heated to 350
  9. Bake for 45 minutes to and hour. A knife should come out clean when inserted.
  10. Let cool before serving.
  11. This is not a make ahead desert. Serve within a few hours of baking since it is best at room temperature or slightly warm from the oven.
