When your kids don't get enough sleep they are more susceptible to infections and viruses too. So make sure they get enough rest. Coequally, when they do end up with the flu, on top of loading them up with Vitamin C, rest is still one of the best ways to recuperate for sickness. So make sure they can plenty of it!

Teach and equip them for proper hand washing

One way of making this fun for your kids is to give them a hygiene kit. They can pick the flavour of their hand wash or soap, the colour of their towel and the scent of their hand sanitisers. This is one way of getting them into the habit of washing their hands.

Remind them to wash their hands before and after meals, before and after using the toilet and after they play. It is also important to teach them how to wash their hands properly. Remember to teach them to scrub in between fingers, and nails, and to wash up to their elbows.

Coordinate with the school staff

You can be holistic about the prevention by involving yourself in a dialogue with teachers and co-parents regarding prevention of the spread of communicable diseases, such as flu. Supplementing your efforts with a follow through school program in hygiene and health is a very good way to make sure your kids and the other children in school are equip to protect themselves from diseases.
