What is Gallbladder stone?

Gallstones are basically lumps or stones that develop in the gallbladder pouch or in the bile duct when few substances inside it get hardened because of the chemicals that are present inside it.

What are the symptoms?

1) Most of the time, the victim does not realise any sign because of the stones remain inside the bladder silently. But in certain situations, it can lead to an inflammation of the bladder known as cholecystitis.

2) You will feel pain on the right side of your body right under the ribs or in the right shoulder.

3) You may incur severe back pain

4) You will be feeling nauseating and want to vomit after meals.

5) You will sweat excessively and feel restless without any reason.

Treatments of Gallbladder stone-

  • Cholecystectomy is the removal of gallbladder stones surgery. It can be done either through open surgery where the whole abdomen is cut open to remove the stones or a laparoscopic one where only a keyhole is made, and the stone is removed.
  • Ursodeoxycholic acid is efficient in dissolving the stones if it is due to cholesterol. But it is time taking and can take up to 24 months to work.
  • It can also be removed through Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography when the gallbladder stones surgery can not be done. A fibre-optic camera is made to pass through the mouth to the gallbladder, and with an electrically heated wire, the bile duct is opened, and stones are removed.
  • Lithotripsy is also a way to treat stones in the gallbladder where stones are broken by giving ultrasonic shocks. It can be effective only if the gallstone is very less in number.

Diagnosis of Gallbladder stone-

  • Through CT scan gallbladder stone can be diagnosed because it uses a non-invasive Xray that shows the cross-section pictures of the inner side of the patient’s body.
  • Another frequently done test is the Cholescintigraphy where harmless radioactive materials are injected in a patient’s body. It brings in to focus any abnormal contraction that the gallbladder may face or a bile duct’s obstruction.

Avoid junks and food which is rich in fat and carbohydrate. A balanced diet is highly recommended. Feel free to contact Max Healthcare for any query!
