Getting the dragons

In January, my husband and I got the confirmation that he would be deploying with his Air National Guard unit in April. Sometime in February we broke it to our then almost 3 year old daughter that daddy would be going away for awhile to help keep other kids safe and protect them. Instantly Kennedy said 'from the dragon?' Craig and I looked at each other, and shared a smile knowing that was how she was going to process daddy's deployment (we had recently been on a Sleeping Beauty movie binge).

We continued to talk about the pending deployment regularly so that it would become a familiar topic in the house. And every time, Kennedy would refer to the dragons that daddy would be fighting.

Fast forward to D-day as we said our emotional goodbyes, Kennedy reminded daddy to get the dragons! And when we talk on the phone and FaceTime, Craig and Kennedy always talk about getting the dragons. Kennedy and I talk about daddy getting the dragons too, like when I ask her what she thinks daddy's doing right now.

So, what do fathers do best? In the eyes of our three year old, daddy's are best at getting dragons.

Thank you to my husband, Kennedy and Jaxon's daddy, MSgt Miller for keeping us safe from the dragons. We love you to the moon and back.
