In order for the 3-day training to be successful, there are a number of things you will need to do. Obviously, the very first thing is for you to select the right day when you can devote all your time and energy to the training of your child. It is important that you gather all the things you will need to use in these three days so that the training is not interrupted.

You will need to identify a partner who will help you during these three days and together work out how the training will be done. Preparing the child psychologically will also go a long way in making the training move on smoothly. Finally, being able to identify the signs that the child is now ready for the training is also important.

Choose the right date and time

Selecting the right date and time is the most important consideration you have to make. First, you will have to select a date where you are available to completely dedicate your time and energy to your child’s potty training. Even if your child may show signs that she is ready for the training, starting the process at the wrong time can derail all your efforts. Never start the training due to pressure from any source.

When choosing the time, make sure that you chose a time when there is stability in the life of the child and your family. If you select a time when you are moving house or there are new people coming to stay with you, you will make the child uncomfortable and stressed. Make sure that the routine of the child is not disturbed at all during this important time.

Prepare the child physiologically

Do not ambush your child with the three days. Well ahead of this time, there are certain things you will need to do to start getting the child psychologically prepared for the three days of training. Experts advise that an effective way of introducing the child to the ideas that will be covered in potty training is involving it in your daily vocabulary. For example, when you go to the toilet, you may want to loudly say, "Now mommy is going to use the potty" or when you talk to the child’s siblings or other members of your family, “Oh Susan, are you going to use the potty now?”

Another effective way to introduce the child to these ideas is to leave books about potty training lying around in your home. Take a step further and start reading these books along with your child. Your main aim at this stage is to bring a consciousness about the idea of using a potty. This way, you are helping your child to become comfortable with the idea on the overall. At this stage, you are not yet training the child, you are just nurturing interest.

Children learn new things using their senses and by imitating other people doing things. Part of the preparation for the three days of training should involve using the child’s senses. Let the child see people using the toilet. Boys will benefit from watching other boys and girls will benefit from watching other girls. Whether it is yourself or other members of the family, encourage everybody to allow the child to come into the bathroom when they use the toilet. When using the toilet, keep talking to the child in a casual way and telling her what you are doing.

Get all the things you will need

In order for your three days of training to be a success, you will need to get certain things into the house ahead of that day. Getting everything you need will ensure that once the process is underway you will not be disturbed. Imagine discovering that you haven’t yet bought the potty chair on the day when you need to start the training?

Potty training chair

Choosing the right chair is very important. For the 3-day training, it is advisable to get a number of standalone potty chairs. During the three days of training, you will be required to put these chairs at different places around your home. Using many chairs is however argued against by other experts as they say that this lengthens the process as you will, later on, have to start teaching your child to move from using several chairs to using one. Even if this is considered, just remember the aim of this training, it is to train the child to use the potty. Not to use a single potty, but use the potty successfully.

Plenty of Water and Juice

The reason why you will need plenty of water or diluted juice during this three days will be to encourage your child to pee. Apart from water and juice, you can also use salty foods that will make the child thirsty. The more the child is thirsty, the more water she will want to drink and the more she will want to use the potty. The more she uses the potty the more chance to train her into this habit you have.

Cleaning supplies

It is inevitable that there will be accidents during the days of training. Prepare yourself for these accidents by getting the cleaning supplies you will need. Apart from the cleaning solutions, you are also going to need a bucket. Also remember to get several pairs of loose-fitting pants so that your child can put them on when you need to go out during the three days of training.

Travel potty

It does not mean that if you have set aside the day to do the training, then you will not need to go out with the child. You need to get a compact, portable travel potty that you can take around when there is a need to travel. Also, because the child is traveling around in loose fitting pants, you will also need to carry a towel or an absorbent pad which you can put over your car set.

Means to warm your home

The training method as advocated by Fellom is known as the “bare-bottomed” method. This means that for the next three months after the three days of training, the child will have to go without any clothing below the waist. You would want to make sure that your home remains warm enough for your child to go around without clothes.
