Before my daughter Morgan was born, I thought I understood love. I didn't. I decided to document my all encompassing, overwhelming emotion, fear and joy in a letter to my 6 month old baby girl.

Sweet Morgan,

I have anticipated this moment for all of my life. I imagined the glow in your eyes, your laughter and your smile on your very first Christmas Day.

Of course, I could only imagine what a little beauty you would be and how your adorable personality would evolve. Your spunk never fails to surprise me, your tenacity makes me proud, and your sweet and loving spirit warms my entire being.

In a world that is often filled with questions and doubt, of these things I am now certain: it is possible to love someone more than yourself, being a mother is truly life’s greatest joy, and there must be a God….for there is no other who could create a little person as perfect as you.

You will have to be patient with me, sweet Morgan, as I have never been a Mommy before. I will make mistakes, but we will end up teaching each other. My promise to you is to always give you my best and help you to grow into a beautiful, strong and caring young woman.

Being your “Mommy” has exceeded my every wish and prayer. You are the greatest gift that I could ever be given. With all my heart and soul, I will love you for all time.
