This is a quick (and very easy) recipe to help you create the most delicious, fresh, dairy-free nut milk. My grandma always made her own nut milk - she liked to serve this warm and cold depending upon the season.
If it's cold out, warm 1 cup of nut milk in a saucepan with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon for a nourishing, comforting drink. In the summertime, serve chilled, blended with ½ frozen banana or ½ cup frozen blueberries to enjoy a satisfying, health-supportive beverage. YUM!
After pre-soaking your almonds, it doesn't take much to make and enjoy this delicious, preservative-free almond milk. Thanks to my grandma, I continue to enjoy such an affordable way to be healthy and happy!
Grandma's Homemade Almond Milk
- Servings: Up to 1 litre (2-4 cups)
Ingredients
- 1 cup raw, unsalted almonds, pre-soaked the night before.
- 2-4 cups water (depending upon preferred consistency: 2 cups = thick, creamy milk. 4 cups water = thin milk)
- High powered blender
- Piece of cheesecloth or nut milk bag
Preparation
- Pre-soak almonds overnight (at least 8 hours) in water - use enough water to cover all the almonds
- Drain and rinse almonds before combining with 2-4 cups of filtered water in blender
- Blend on high until water turns white and milky (about 1-2 mins)
- Pour milk through cheesecloth or nut milk bag into a jug (to serve) or jar (to store in fridge up to 5 days). Save almond pulp to use in cake or muffin recipes!
- Enjoy nut milk with your breakfast, in smoothies or as a delicious milk alternative in coffee, tea and recipes.
