The ultimate fusion dish!
Hot Dog Maki Roll
- Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients
- Cooking oil
- 4 hot dogs, extra long if you can find them
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons mirin
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 sheets nori (dried seaweed sheets)
- Approx. 4 cups cooked sushi rice
- Furikake (Japanese rice seasoning) or sesame seeds
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Preparation
- Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hot dogs and cook until they start to brown.
- Add the soy sauce, mirin, and brown sugar to the pan. Cook until reduced to half. Take off the heat.
- Lay a sheet of nori on a sushi rolling mat, Spread out a cup of rice evenly over the sheet. Take a spoonful of the reduced sauce from the pan and spread it across at the quarter mark of the sheet closer to you.
- Sprinkle a light layer of furikake on the rice. Lay the hot dog over the same spot as the sauce.
- Carefully roll and tuck the edge closest to you over the hot dog. Repeat until you've reached the other end. Repeat for the rest of the hot dogs.
- Cut the roll into 8 equal rounds. Before serving, brush each slice with the sauce and sprinkle sesame seeds to garnish.
