This hearty, meaty dish is the perfect comfort food for family gatherings. This is a recipe that my mom has made year after year for the Jewish holidays, and it's always hit. It's flavorful, rich and oh-so-delicious.
The Best Ever Make-Ahead Brisket of Beef
- Servings: 10 servings
- Prep Time: 30 hr
- Cooking Time: 3 hr 30 min
Ingredients
- 1 package of onion soup mix
- ⅓ cup of cider vinegar
- 1 cup of ketchup
- ½ cup of brown sugar
- ½ cup of water (optional)
- 4 lbs brisket
- 1 large oven bag
Preparation
- Boil soup mix, cider, ketchup, brown sugar and water in a large saucepan until fully incorporated.
- Pour sauce on top of brisket in plastic bag (keeps the brisket moist)
- Cook brisket for 2 ½ - 3 hours at 350 degrees
- Let brisket cool and slice up thin
- Place brisket in a large casserole dish and pour the gravy over it
- Leave brisket in the fridge for 24 hours (this allows the flavors to really soak into the meat)
- Reheat and serve!
