This hearty, meaty dish is the perfect comfort food for family gatherings. This is a recipe that my mom has made year after year for the Jewish holidays, and it's always hit. It's flavorful, rich and oh-so-delicious.

The Best Ever Make-Ahead Brisket of Beef

  • Servings: 10 servings
  • Prep Time: 30 hr
  • Cooking Time: 3 hr 30 min

Ingredients

  • 1 package of onion soup mix
  • ⅓ cup of cider vinegar
  • 1 cup of ketchup
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of water (optional)
  • 4 lbs brisket
  • 1 large oven bag

Preparation

  1. Boil soup mix, cider, ketchup, brown sugar and water in a large saucepan until fully incorporated.
  2. Pour sauce on top of brisket in plastic bag (keeps the brisket moist)
  3. Cook brisket for 2 ½ - 3 hours at 350 degrees
  4. Let brisket cool and slice up thin
  5. Place brisket in a large casserole dish and pour the gravy over it
  6. Leave brisket in the fridge for 24 hours (this allows the flavors to really soak into the meat)
  7. Reheat and serve!
