At age twenty-one, Leslie Hsu Oh loses both her mother and brother to liver cancer caused by hepatitis B. This double death fuels the passion Leslie brings to her writing and photography.

"Between the Lines,” an essay adapted from this memoir,” was named among the distinguished stories of the year by Best American Essays. “ Woosh teen ayxa’a! Daa naaytee! We paddle together, imitating our ancestors ” won the 2014 Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. “ Sit' Tlein: The Story of Hubbard Glacier's Spirit and Indigenous Knowledge of Tlingit Seal-Hunting Practices ” won 2015 Alaska Press Club’s 1st place in Best Environmental Reporting.
