Thomas Hoerr
Dr. Thomas Hoerr is the emeritus head of school at the New City School in St. Louis, MO. The New City School faculty began implementing the theory of multiple intelligences in 1988. Tom believes that schools must prepare children for success in the real world, not just to succeed in school. He also believes in joyful learning. Children should want to come to school! Tom is the author of five books, most recently The Formative Five: Fostering Grit, Empathy, and Other Success Skills Every Student Needs (ASCD Press 2016) and over 100 articles. He writes a monthly column, "The Principal Connection," for Educational Leadership. A former teacher and principal, Tom founded and taught in the Washington University Non-Profit Management Program and currently teaches prospective principals at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He holds a PhD from Washington University.
