My daughter, Ravyn, was due in mothers day, May 8, 2016. I had a very normal pregnancy and everything seemed fine. I went into labor January 17, 2016. A doctor came in, looked at the ultrasound, looked at me and told me my baby was breech and I would be having an emergency cesarean that night. My little girl came into this world at 24 weeks and 2 days weighing 1lb and 9.9 ounces. She was 11.5 inches long. My hospital has no NICU, so calls were made and an ambulance was prepped to take her an hour amd a half away from home. I only got a glimpse of the tiniest hand I had ever seen before she was rushed off. She was given a less than 20% chance of surviving. They took her to what is hands down the most amazing childrens hospital in florida. She had round the clock care and the nurses and doctors face timed me while I was recovering to update me and show me my daughter. Their unit only had 10 rooms and most were vacant so they were able to make get their too priority. However the doctors still told us to prepare for the worst. They didnt sugar cost anything and were always up front about everything they were doing or what was happening to her. It was a month and a half before I was abke to hold her for the first time. I thought I would cry, but instead I was filled with an overwhelming sense of peace. She went through PICC lines, NG tubes, digestive problems, NEC, premature lung disease, a grade 2 bilateral brain bleed, and a million other things. At one point her stomach swelled to the size of a softball amd was rock hard. She wasnt reacting well to breast milk. She was switched to formula. After almost 5 months, she came home weighing just over 5 pounds. She fought the monsters and she won. Shes turning 2 in January and I am endlessly thankful to all the nurses and doctors and RTs who helped her. Shes my miracle amd my super hero.
