In today’s digital economy there are so many people that have the opportunity to build an online business and break free from the rat race of the 9 to 5 job that so many people hate. The biggest challenge that I see is that it’s not really a 9 to 5 job because of these little computers that we carry around in our pocket called iPhones and androids. We are one push notification away from answering an email, returning a voicemail, or answering a text message. These quick little distractions keep us from spending quality time with our family. These are precious moments we can’t get back in our lives and one day we may wake up and realize we missed the kids best years because of the J-O-B.

After being fed up with this and realizing this isn’t the answer then we go to starting a side hustle and building an online business. After several hours of listening to webinars buying courses and taking action on the things that we learn trying to build the side hustle to replace our current income it becomes an even bigger distraction from our families. I constantly see people getting trapped in this hamster wheel and in the next few chapters I want to share some valuable tips on how to overcome this.

1. You need to spend quality time with each individual kid. One on one time is where you get to ask questions & be attentive to what is going on in their life. This shows the kids that even though you're working all the time they are still one of the most important things to you. It's amazing to see how kids will open up to you in a one on one that they won't do in a family environment.

2. Dr. Gary Chapman wrote a book called the 5 Love Languages. In it he discusses how we all have different love languages & it is imperative to communicate with your kids through their love languages. If your childs #1 love language is spending quality time that needs to be the focus. Too many times I see parents spending money on kids instead of spending time with them because they don't understand their childs love languages. You can have your kids take the love language quiz online at https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/.

3. One of the things that I've found that builds quality family memories is having weekly family night. Sometimes we do movie night & other nights we choose game night. Something we look forward to each week is piling on the couch together & watching a movie that everyone is wanting to see. On family night we have a 0 tolerance for cell phones. We collect them & put them in another room. We don't want those push notifications or phone calls interrupting our 2 hours of family time each week.

These are just a few things that you can do to balance work and family life. Even when you're hustling and grinding at the J-O-B and building your online business these are a few little things that when you take the time to plan out and do consistently you'll see a dramatic difference in your family life.
