Enjoy the views from the Bastione San Remy

Cagliari, the Sardinian capital was built on seven hills. Castello, the oldest part of the city sits beautifully on top of one the hills. The end result is a magnificent view of the Gulf of Cagliari. This is especially true from Bastione San Remy. From this white liem-stone formation, you can enjoy picturesque views of Cagliari and the Mediterranean. Near the top of the Bastione San Remy, is the magnificent Romanesque Cathedral of Cagliari. The cathedral is more motivation to complete the climb.

The village of Barumini features a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located close to the centre of the island. It holds a tower that dates all the way back to 1,500 BC, during the ancient Nuragic civilisation.

Take in the sights and sounds of Sardinian Wildlife

As is the case with many islands, Sardinia has a healthy selection of rich and unique wildlife. The island’s diversity is special. Interestingly, Sardinia holds no poisonous wildlife allowing unsupervised exploration. Some of the wildlife you can expect to find includes unique species of foxes and deer, monk seals and turtles. Fin whales are spotted near the shores regularly and the island is a bird-watcher paradise. Flamingos and Chaffinches are some of the main bird species.

Explore the Sardinian Mines

Sardinia has a rich mining history that dates back to the 6th millennium. Ingurtosu and Montevecchio are some of the most important and have remained so until mid-last century. UNESCO declared these regions a World Heritage Site to forestall abandonment. Many of the old mining facilities here have been resuscitated. Some have been turned into hotels and are open to visit. The Sardinian Mines area is attractive to travellers and culture lovers looking for exclusivity.
