Once upon a time I stood in a department store and thumbed through a gift book that spoke to the graphic designer within me. I promised myself I’d remember this inspirational book with its simple design and bright pages. Fast forward a number of years to finding out I was pregnant with my daughter. I knew I wanted to create a space for her that was at once both soothing and inspiring. Quickly, I remembered that book from all those years earlier.
The book She shows moving words on color saturated pages – a perfect place to start for a nursery for a little girl. My husband and I took our time choosing the sayings we hoped would shape the person our little peanut would one day become. All the while we found ourselves inspired by the colors used on the pages. As someone who likes to keep things simple, I had already chosen a light grey for the walls of our daughter’s room. To add a pop of color, we had a paint store match the orange showcased in the book to use on the inside of her closet.
Today my daughter loves books so it seems fitting that a book inspired the place where she sleeps and plays. Further, I love that her room is growing with her. Rather than featuring a theme that might expire as she transitions from her baby to toddler years, our simple book continues to be a fun and touching way to set the tone for her personal space.
