My NICU journey didn't start the day my babies were born, yet way before then. I had eyes on the inside being a NICU nurse in the unit that my babies would eventually call home for the first eight weeks of their life's. Finding out the exciting but terrifying news that we were excepting triplets was a day our families will never forget. The joys of that day quickly turned into worries and fears, knowing that our babies could be born too early. My personal goal for the pregnancy was 28 weeks, and we made it! On June 20, 2017 at 28 weeks and 5 days our trio was brought into the world in the wee hours of the morning. Even knowing all I know being a NICU nurse it was still the most terrifying experience I've gone through. Maybe it was I knew too much. Knowing ALL the complications that are possible with a baby born that early could indore. The days were long and the weeks were short, and after 55 and 57 days our babies finally made their voyage home. We were blessed have a fairly uneventful NICU journey, but it still doesn't make it any less scary. Sitting next to all their isolette staring at their beautiful faces is what kept us going everyday. Hoping and praying they don't have any events that day and tolerate their feeds. Day in and day out I see these preemies fight a fight a grown man couldn't even indore, not just my babies but all the hundreds of babies I've seen through the years. Being a NICU mom is just as unique as the babies we create. We all are NICU strong.
