Challenge: Bringing Home Baby: What Do You Wish You’d Known?

Oh yes! I feel prey to the siren song of adorable newborn baby clothes! Who can resist a ruffled pink newborn size baby dress? I discovered very quickly that my baby, and me for that matter, didn't like fussy clothes.  All I used for the first several months was onesies, jammies, and snuggly blankets for swaddling, cuddling, and going outside, that's it!

Beyond that, I wish I had known how hard the first night home with your baby can be.  I am a single mother and my first night home from the hospital it was just me and my baby in her nursery. She cried, I cried, as I wished for nothing more than to be back at the hospital surrounded by my nurses who brought me huge cups of water every hour, stopped in to offer help with the baby, and made me feel like I was in a hotel! The first night, and the nights to follow were a little scary, but eventually the fear subsided and night time became my favorite time to bond with my baby, just me and her!

I also wish someone had told me that breastfeeding HURTS! With all the focus on preparing for the pain of labor, no one mentions how very painful the initial attempts at breastfeeding can be! I would recommend for any new mom who is struggling to breastfeed, GET HELP! It does get better, promise!
