There’s no denying that being a new mum is absolutely exhausting. I would actually go as far as to say one is more exhausted and stressed than new mums who are trying to do it all.

It’s likely you feel overwhelmed, overcome with housework, desperate for a nap and generally exhausted. But, there is hope! Below are a few ways new mums can beat fatigue – be it emotionally, mentally, and physically – so you can fully enjoy your baby and stop wanting to sleep all. the. time.

Manage your visitors

Most new mums will know the feeling of the never ending door bell ring. Everyone wants a piece of that new baby smell, after all. While it is important that you try to maintain ties with people, so you can feel connected to the outside world, the only visior you should be letting in in the early stages are the ones who comes bearing food or cleaning products. It’s okay to tell people to go away! If you’re not up to entertaining guests, let them know you’re not.

Get out and about

Accept every single babysitting offer you get. You will be amazed the difference 15 minutes out of the house can make to your wellbeing. A little stroll to you local coffee shop can make you feel alive, energised and human again!

It’s important that you accept help from people and when they encourage you to head out for a few hours, you ask do! You need a mental and emotional break and you won’t get it without changing your environment for a bit.

Sleep whenever you can

Weh the baby sleeps - you sleep. If you can nap when your baby naps, it’s important that you do it. The laundry, dishes and even Dancing with the Stars can wait - sleep is not a luxury, it’s a medical necessity! Having just a few hours of uninterrupted sleep per night to protect your serotonin level can make the difference between burnout and feeling happy.

Taking sleep supplements that won’t make you drowsy is a good idea - nootropics can help you get a “healthier sleep”, without worrying you won’t wake up if your baby cries!

Clean up

Don’t roll your eyes just yet! Starting each day with a sense of accomplishment as simple as taking a shower and getting dressed first thing in the morning can make you feel so much better. Honestly, a shower can make you feel refreshed enough to fool yourself into thinking you had a good night’s sleep.
