Parents, you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Or just as likely, we’ve got questions and you’ve got answers.

Grandma Lil and Helen,

How did you do this? How did you so gracefully pull everything together? You know, like raising five kids in the midst of worry and famine? How did you still make sure they were sitting down for dinner time, with fine China, while your worries were set aside?

My life still mimics yours with so many idiosyncrasies.

Your deepest worry, Praying the Lord would rain on your fields so your family could flourish the best ways possible.

How did you not shut down? Because honestly, I feel as though I could at times.

You had those pure melanin eyes that would shimmer with a charm and positivity that wrapped me in comfort and happiness.

The sparkle in your soft spoken voice sent waves of peace and humility in my heart. Your soul was stronger than the rest.

Both of you had a sober strength that could deal with Whiskey nights and you prayed for your family before dawn and the exact moment of dusk. In the black night you prayed to Saint Michael to protect the battles you faced.

Can I please breathe some of your grace and class? please envelop me in Eickenbrock boldness and Torkelson Calm.

Valkyries- you are My ShieldMaidens in life.

God knows I struggle, as we all do.
I pray to know you still,
To carry even the tiniest parts of you both.
The absolute best pieces.

I long for the flutter of Hummingbird wings and Weathered Rosary beads.

Grandma,
Be with me.
For your prayers still protect.
