When you don’t have an established babysitter
When grandparents don’t live nearby
When your first responder works 24+ hours shifts multiple times per week
When it’s not always possible to “get a break”
Pause.
Breathe.
Embrace a change in scenery.
Go on a walk.
Drive those first responder kids for a quick visit to see daddy at the firehouse.
Turn on your soul-filling music and go to the coffee shop drive-thru.
Hide in the bathroom for five minutes and enjoy a Little Debbie brownie or unleash the tears that you’ve been trying to hold in.
Turn on the music and bake some cookies with your kids while you crazy dance.
It’s amazing what a change in scenery and mental reset can do for the soul.
It doesn’t have to be complex.
Simple is okay, too.
Feeling is okay.
Honesty is okay.
Don’t feel guilty if your soul needs a little refresh (or second or third cup of coffee) today.
