I have to confess some things. I've never been the kind of girl who doesn't care about food. Never been the girl at the office who says "Oh I just forgot to eat today.". Never could I call myself a "Gym Rat". You know that type of person, right? You have a girlfriend that says she has to go to the gym every day, otherwise she feels crabby.
I am the opposite. I avoid sweating at all costs, unless it's from eating a spectacularly hot salsa, or I'm laying out on the sand. I don't exercise. I don't get how people enjoy running. And the bottom line is.. I. like. food.
Here in Hollywood I enter the Danger Zone in November and it lasts until January, because that's when all the festive foods come out and all the fun parties happen.
I love to eat and drink and be social with all the special flavors of the Holiday Season. From Eggnog Martini's to Starbuck's PSLs, to Cheesecake Factory's Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake and Grandma's Green Bean Casserole, I don't miss a chance to try those tastes that will soon be gone!
Then right after the Holidays, it's Awards Season, when I want to look my best.
It sounds ridiculous, but that's how it is to a certain extent for everybody. Lots of food, then BAM! right into that insane New Year's resolution.
So this year I decided to start my health kick early. I enlisted A LOT of help.
How do celebrities DETOX?
You've heard about them or you’ve maybe done one?
I have, yes, done many. I love the feeling I get after a good detox, but I usually don’t look forward to the fasting itself. I think that’s normal. For example, I love the way my teeth feel after a good teeth-cleaning from my Dentist, but is anyone all that excited to go to a dentist appointment?
Same with waxing. Same with the gym. LOL
A good detox leaves me feeling lighter, digesting food better, having an easier time being active, sleeping better, wanting to be a healthier person in general.
I personally believe in that weird idea that our bodies don’t need to eat every day because that's not how our ancestors ate. It’s not in our DNA. Our primal truth is to sometimes skip a meal or a full day of eating because food isn't supposed to be readily available 24/7. Fastfood probably isn't the natural way to eat. Right?
We can get into all of that primal stuff in another post. If you’re not interested in hardcore fasting then you probably don’t want to hear my colonic stories, right? Saved for another post.
Skip forward.
I chose to follow the HIIP program for my current detox cleanse and diet. Some of the reasons I like their program s because the researchers & health experts in their organization understand that I have probably been eating nasty foods. I don’t eat well all the time, which is how I gained weight. Because of the junk I need a “re-set”. A Detox or Fast is a human reset for the body.
Here’ how I explain it. When my computer is acting funky, slow, not processing (digesting) data properly, then I reboot it.
When my kid's ipad isn’t working or a game isn’t loading fast enough, I tell them to “turn it on and off again”.
That’s how the HIIP diet plan starts me off. They send me a big box with everything I need for a 2 Day reset. During this 48 hrs of cleansing my body, I fill my mind with motivating info from their literature in my binder they send to me. I meet people in the HIIP Private Facebook Group. I get mentally strong & ready to reach my weight-loss goals.
The HIIP shakes and supplements are the only things I eat for 2 day. This regimen helps push out all the junk & toxins & grease & sugar & fat & chemicals I’ve been eating & drinking & storing in my body. I’ve done quite a bit of research on this stuff because it was part of my job on-air to take care of my physical appearance. I've heard some experts say that it's IMPOSSIBLE to lose weight now-a-days without riding our bodies of the toxins surrounding and sticking to our fat cells. The un-natural things we eat and the toxins in our environment are keeping fat from being released by our bodies.
The fast put me in the full-on committed diet mode. I keep eating clean for the remainder of the first week. After that it’s Rapid Weight loss in a “BURN” phase where I have seen as much as 8 lbs fall off of me in one week. Yeah, Baby.
So I’ve already wiped out the first tier of my weight-loss before the Holidays. And I will do another detox after Christmas day. Is it ok to do that? Yes. My coach and I talk on the phone every week. We design the plan that work REALISTICALLY for me. I like to eat Holiday Dinner. I like pie. I’m gonna have some. We both know that. Therefore it makes sense for me to give myself a break at Christmas and do another detox to reboot the next phase of my weight-loss.
I hate to exercise. Which is another reason I love the HIIP diet.
Read my post about the un-gym workout for lazy mamas here.
When I add walking to the diet menu I'm following, I find the weight really moves. My coach only asks me to take 10k steps a day. It's not hard. It's literally just walking, and not running or doing the elliptical or lifting weights. I get so motivated and excited about my shrinking waistline that I don’t want to slow my progress by skipping a walk.
The Detox and the 10,000 steps may sound like a big commitment, but it really isn't. It's only temporary. That's my mantra. And in all honesty if I don't see results from a diet right away (dramatic changes) then I will quit. Just forget it. I know myself. Are you the same way?
Today I’m 10 lbs down and start my second detox the day after Christmas. I'll post an update right here after I finish my last Eggnog Latte of the season.
Follow me on Instagram for more pics and recipes in my Instastories. My personal goal is going to take a while as I tackle a big weight-loss goal. I currently weigh more than I ever have before, except when I've been pregnant. And oh-by-the-way I am so not pregnant right now. So…. This is not the weight I want to be. Never want to be this weight again.
Thanks for taking interest in my journey and in this plan from HIIP. It's something different I really wanted to share with you. I've worked with some of the people at this company before when I was on the radio at KOST 103.5 hosting the morning show. I knew they would be able to help me again when I started looking for a solid diet plan. I'm so happy we reconnected and I am having success with them again like last time. I can't wait to check in with you again with even more success under my belt.
My shrinking belt! Wish me luck. Better yet, come join me. It's more fun with friends. XO, Kristin
