When you are a busy mom, you don’t always have time to take care of all of the housework. But, when you let too much go, you end up with a lot of clutter, and after a while it can seem like you are buried under the clutter. You don’t know where you are going to find the time to get it all cleaned up, because you are so busy being a mom and taking care of your family. If you are a working mom, it is all that much more difficult to stay on top of clutter. Today, we are going to give busy moms some tips for decluttering their homes, and keeping them decluttered.
- Don’t Do it All at Once – If you have a lot of decluttering to do, don’t try to tackle everything all at once. This is just going to overwhelm you, and you may end up getting little to nothing done at all. Take baby steps, and tackle one small job at a time. Today, it may be cleaning out the junk drawer in your kitchen. Tomorrow, it could be cleaning out a closet.
- Everyone does their Part – You shouldn’t be the only person in the home who is taking care of keeping things neat and tidy. Everyone should be doing their part, including kids who are old enough to take on certain chores. Even the little ones can help, simply by putting their toys away when they are through with them.
- Sell Stuff – There are probably loads of items around your home that no one is using, such as old electronic gadgets. You can sell your used laptop, and other items, which is going to clear up a lot of space in your home. It will also give you some extra cash that you can use for paying bills, savings, or buying the things that you actually do need. Also, get rid of things that you are saving, just in case you may need them someday. If you are not using them, it is time to let them go.
- Create a Decluttering Schedule – Set aside a certain amount of time each day for cleaning and decluttering. Mark the time on your calendar or day planner, and try to stick to the schedule you have created. Once you have done the decluttering, keep this schedule for making sure that you stay on top of things so the clutter doesn’t build back up.
- Stop Shopping – If you are someone who loves to shop and buy things, it is time to haul it in a bit. Stop buying things you don’t really need. Each time you start to make a purchase, ask yourself if you or anyone in your household truly needs the item in question. When you buy a lot of things you don’t need, you just end up with more clutter in the long run.
- Get into a Laundry Routine – Often, the most clutter in a home is dirty laundry, especially if you or other members of the household tend to let clothing lay where it falls after taking it off. It is time to get into a specific laundry routine. Pick a day and time each week to do laundry, and get it all done. Also, get into the habit of putting dirty items into the hamper, and get the rest of your family into the same habit to help curb the clutter in your home.
- A Place for Everything – It is time to get into the habit of finding a place for everything, and keeping everything in its place. But, this will only work if everyone in the home is on board. Make sure that even the little ones know that everything has its place, and when they are done with something, it should be put back where it belongs.
