Think back to some of your happiest moments. You were likely surrounded by family and friends.

When Langka Domberger, adoptive mother of seven beautiful children, gave birth for the second time in Los Angeles, this new mama of now nine arrived in the delivery room to a giant surprise. Her husband had gathered her nearest and dearest and they were already at the hospital at 5 a.m. waiting to surprise her!

It is easy to look at this photo and think, "I wish I had friends like that. She is so lucky." But there is no luck involved. Langka's tribe didn't just appear, she devotes herself to them and gets rewarded with the same loyalty she gives. As she explained to me, "My friendships are as important as my marriage and my relationship with my children and family. I believe the greatest joy is when you find a soul mate in the form of a platonic friend." She continues, "Where there is so much duty placed on marital and maternal relationships, friendship allows you to fall in love genuinely and organically."

It takes work to find your tribe and that doesn't mean manufacturing a clique. It could mean creating a support system that includes a wide variety of friends from different parts of your life. No matter how you slice it, a fulfilling life includes a healthy portion for friends. Next time you think of wellness as simply fitness, yoga or meditation, reconsider. Say yes to the margarita with a friend, the girl's trip, or the friend in need.

As Langka explains, "For me, there's always been a magic involved in friendship." When they show up in the delivery room, it is beautiful magic indeed.
