Football. It’s the ultimate character revealer.
It truly is a game that can show you what you are made of. I never understood it, till my #52 suited up and took his place on the field.
Will you out work your opponent?
Will you quit when it is hard?
Will you suffer better?
Will you do your job? Will your teammate do his?
Can your team count on you?
Will you reach down your hand and pull a teammate up when his chin turns down? And will he lend you his when it is yours that needs lifting?
As the players march down the field to take their place, a calm storm brews. Dressed in their armor, they prepare to see if they have what it takes to get the job done.
Meeting in a huddle. Together. They battle.
And even in the defeats, the important lessons are learned. A yard line, an end zone can make the difference between agony or bliss.
There are really no superstars. It is not one player who wins or loses. Everyone must do their part. And usually the team who fights the hardest through the whistle, fails to quit, and never gives up—WINS.
