Since I was in eighth grade I've worked. Whether it was being the shampoo girl at Mary Sue's Hair Design on Saturdays or every summer at a various day camp or internship, or when I graduated college and entered "the real world", working has been very much a part of who I am. And I've loved it.

I am 100% confident if I didn't work I'd go crazy. But this summer I'm more excited about it than I have been about summers in the past. That's because this will be the first time in almost 15 years that I have the flexibility of enjoying the best parts of summer with my boys while working on my own schedule.

When I left my corporate job last winter to work on Finnbin and my marketing consultancy, a big motivator was to get more time at home. I was burnt out from being gone for 12 hours and feeling like I was missing the best parts of my kiddos growing up. Mind you, I loved my job and it was something that brought me great joy, but I knew I was ready for a change.

So I did exactly that and now here we are, the beginning of June, school is out and I'm so excited to get this summer underway.

I still have a ton of work to do (always!) which is why the boys will be at camp during the day, but I'll be the one who picks them up and then we can go to the pool, go to the beach, watch our beloved Chicago Cubs and enjoy the best parts of this season. I also know that change is inevitable and who knows where I'll be next summer? Maybe on a plane twice a week because Finnbin is growing like crazy (which would be awesome!). Maybe a new opportunity presents itself and I am back to a corporate lifestyle. I embrace change and look forward to when it appears (mostly) but that also means I need to be present and grateful for the this summer. For the flexibility of this summer and not try to over plan it. Which is hard. I'm a planner. And there's a time and place for planning, but I also expect a lot of this summer will keep us on our toes. I can't wait!
