This is the best time to bond with your kid and spend time with family and loved ones. There is a lot happening throughout the city every year but we will help you find the best spots to go to with your kids. Here are some things you can do this year on Christmas in New York City:

Macy’s Santaland

This is a popular one and for all the right reasons. Based on the 13th floor of Herald Square, it looks like a mountain of Christmas decorations. The Domino Sugar Bake Shoppe is a must for they have some amazing gingerbread men. The Lionel Trains Industrial City is going to be spectacular as there are six trains surrounding a six feet tall Christmas tree. But most importantly, you have the man every kid loves: Santa. After enjoying all the exhibitions and ice rink, head with the elves to Santa and take the custom picture with Santa, may be even a selfie of your own too!

Origami Holiday Tree at American Museum of Natural History

How about doing two things in one trip? You can visit the museum and also check out the amazing Origami Holiday Tree at the center of it. Kids love this museum and no matter how many times you take them, they are always excited to visit it, and what better time than Christmas to take your kid to this place of fun and knowledge. There are like 1000 handmade ornaments at the site and an activity of paper folding art too.

New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show

Does your kid fancy trains as much as Sheldon from Big Bang Theory? If yes, do not miss the train show at the New York Botanical Garden. This is a whopping 3000 square feet area with trains running a quarter of a mile. The whole set up is spectacular as you have 55 New York City landmarks in between twigs and leaves. And these are all made from natural materials so appreciate the tons of effort that goes into the process.

Union Square Holiday Market

This is a great way to spend time shopping for jewelry, decorations, artwork, and of course toys. You will not just be buying but also supporting the local small businesses. The market features mostly American made stuff and your kids will absolutely love it. Just don’t forget to get some coffee while you navigate through the stalls.

Ice Skating at Bank of America Winter Village in Byrant Park

If you are a New York City resident, you know how the Byrant Park is transformed into this beautiful festival for Christmas. There is a huge ice rink where your kids can skate. And while they skate, you can grab some food from the shops and buy some last minute gifts. It is one of our favorites because there is so much to do for children. Pop up shops with games will have the kids jumping with holiday excitement. The best is the New York Puzzle Company one as it is productive and enjoyable.

Holiday Train Exhibition at Grand Central Terminal

Another train exhibition that is back in town and will be spectacular to say the least is the one at New York Transit Museum. Visit the Grand Central Gallery Annex to see 34 feet long, two level trains display. This is not just for kids, it is basically for all ages. The Dr. George T. F. Rahilly train models will be there too so do not miss this exhibition if you love trains.

The Yorkville Nutcracker

How about watching Francis Patrelle choreographed ballet? It is not just entertaining but also informative with an important lesson in History. This year the show will have New York City Principal Ballet Dancers. You can take kids aged 8 or above.

These are not the only events in New York City as the whole city has holiday shows and markets set up in almost every neighborhood. If you plan on seeing a popular show, then make sure to book tickets in advance. Start with the places that are near your residence and make your way further into the city to enjoy maximum spots.
