Grow wherever you go.

A new year of school is upon us. Summer moved too quickly and I can already see our fall calendar filling up fast. As we enter a new year full of its own challenges and opportunities I want to encourage my children to do one thing.

Grow wherever you go.

Everyday you have the opportunity to learn something new. Some things will come easily for you. Some things will require great effort.

There is growth in both.

You will face difficulty. There will be people who treat you unfairly. There will be days you feel invisible.

You will have wonderful days. There will be people who treat you kindly. There will be days that you feel incredible.

There is growth in both.

Be kind and fierce.

Be strong and gentle.

Be brave and humble.

There is growth in both.

Make new friends but don’t forget the old ones.

There is growth in both.

Take time to talk to those younger than you and those older than you.

There is growth in both.

And little by little, day after day, you’ll find that you’ve changed and matured along the way. You’ll find new perspective and learn things you didn’t know as long as you remember, to grow wherever you go.
