Who else watched the #10yearchallenge on social media and giggled? The pics were transformational and funny to boot. But it's safe to say that 100% of the people looked better after 10 years. Even if you don't think you looked better after 10 years, I promise you did.
Why? You had wisdom in your eyes. You had confidence in your gait. Your life experience showed like an aura, and it was glorious.
I will be 40 this year. This is weird to say out loud.
When I tell people about my milestone birthday coming up, most people ask the same thing: "How do you feel about that?"
In truth, I want to say I'm nervous. I want to say I don't feel old. I want to say I'm a little scared.
But mostly I just say, "I feel great!"
And this is a fact. Because in the past 10 years -- since the time of the #10yearchallenge, in fact -- I feel, look and AM better than I've ever been. 10 years ago? Bluh. Ten years ago I was finalizing a divorce, I was nurturing destructive habits, I wasn't taking care of myself. I was wondering what to do with my life. I was wondering if I would ever find real love, have kids, find my voice.
10 years changes everything, doesn't it? I'm grateful to be a happily-married, sober mommy of two little boys who give me so much purpose. The person I am now is stronger, happier and wiser than the person I was then.
Age is just a number. But 40? 40 is a effing GREAT number.
I will embrace this next decade with everything I have, and everything I've learned along the way.
Cheers to you, my thirties. You were beautiful and I owe you so much. But time does not let us turn back so I won't. I will run with this.
Here comes 40.
