Thanks to the internet, there are numerous home-based businesses that a stay at home mom can start, and run successfully. This provides an opportunity to start and grow a business while having the convenience of being at home for your family.
If you have been thinking about starting a home-based business, I have polled twelve successful entrepreneurs to ask them to share their best ideas for stay at home moms with entrepreneurial desires.
1. Start a parenting blog.
“The most successful blogs are run by those that are extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the particular subject matter. If you are an experienced parent, you can share your experiences and knowledge with the world through a blog. If your story and voice connects with readers, you can then monetize that audience through advertisements or your own products, such as eBooks.”
John Rampton, Founder of Due
2. Become a freelance writer.
“Content marketing has become such a key component of online marketing, and there is a shortage of quality writers out there due to the huge demand. If you are a skilled writer, start by finding work on the major freelancing marketplaces and then once you build up a large portfolio, start a freelance ghost-writing business. Talented writers will always be in demand.”
Jonathan Long, Founder of Sexy Smile Kit
3. Social media management consulting.
“Every business needs to be active on social media these days, yet many simply don’t know how social media works or how to use it to market their business. If you understand the ins and outs of social media, start a consulting company to help educate business owners about the benefits of social media. There is an endless number of potential customers waiting for your help.”
Kevin Adkins, CEO of Kenmore Law Group
4. Virtual assistant.
“With so many companies operating remotely these days, it has created a huge demand for virtual assistants. Figure out what your top skillsets are, and look for companies that need those services. You can find opportunities on freelancer websites and marketplaces. There are plenty of part-time and full-time opportunities available.”
Johnny Carpet of Dallas Flooring Warehouse
5. Website design and development.
“One look at any freelancer website, and you will see that there is a large need for talented website designers and developers. If this is something that you went to school for or have experience with, it’s very easy to find steady work. Create a website that highlights your previous experience and start to bid on available gigs as your time allows.”
Joe Bragg, CEO of Mulpix
