A lot of people want to be their own boss right? But starting your own company is something for, well, childless professionals.
What if I told you that you are wrong?
I had my first child when I was 20 and took some time off work. Most people would see this as a set back but it gave me a little bit of time to read into what I loved - web design.

Starting out a web design company was actually relatively easy. I used a company called People Per Hour which lets you bid for work and built it up there. By doing an amazing job on most project I got a lot of word-of-mouth business.
I started around 6 years ago and running my own business has gives me so much flexibility bringing up the children. It is amazing being able to take a 45 minute break and pick up the kids, then putting in a couple of hours after the children are in bed.
You don't really get that kind of flexibility outwith being self-employed. Granted a lot of companies are becoming more flexible but you cannot match being your own boss!

It is a busy lifestyle but so rewarding. The flexibility allows me to take a day off for special events.
Being a web designer I can also work anywhere. Web design is my passion and I love doing what I do. With web design I can work very agile yet get some good results.
I did mention it being easy starting out - what I mean is that it was easier than I thought. Don't get me wrong, runnning a web design company is difficult, but the rewards are deffinately worth it!
If any parents are reading this and wondering if they should do the same my advice would be simple - do it!
Following my passion has changed my life. Please reach out to me if you would like any more advice on how I achieved all of this.
