A number of parents consider travelling with young children can be a daunting task. The whole journey can be uncomfortable for your little one, or he/she can be full of tantrums, and they might not like the idea of fitting into a new place, which is different from their everyday ambience. Yet, given that travelling as an essential part of education, there is no harm in starting it early. And a few smart tips up your sleeve would prove that a little bit of preparation can go a long way to reduce untoward situations.
Going With a Toddler
Have a lap toddler at home? Then your vacation plan would begin right from choosing your flights, holiday destination and hotels. Make sure that you select the flights strategically, especially if you have connecting flights to board. Your child might not like the idea to rush to the other side of the airport right after landing from one. Again, waiting for hours at the airport to catch the next flight can make him/her uncomfortable, as well. Also, check with the airlines to see their payment and seat booking policies for young children. Even if you are moving to an exotic place and know a nice place to stay, it is practical to book a hotel, which has ready access to emergency services. It might not be a good idea to choose a hilly, rocky, or steep place.
Vacationing With Relatively Older Children
When your child grows up a bit, you might want to take him/her out for an international tour. In that case, make sure that keep the passports ready. Also, complete the immunization programs recommended before visiting certain places, if you are visiting any of them. Your child might find certain customs, or languages tad weird. It is important to teach them to respect different cultures. It is a good idea to teach a few words of greetings. Of course, while packing, you have to limit the number of toys
General Tips
While travelling with kids, you need to keep a lot of diapers, wipes and nappy rash cream handy. Yet, make sure that you do not over pack. Keep a lot of dry fruits and light snacks handy. If your child has an ear infection, then you might want to give ibuprofen to him before and after the flight. During the flight, you can offer chewing gums or hard candies. Also, try to maintain as many daily habits at home as possible, and never compromise on the sleeping hours.
