Of all the things to be thankful for, having the ability to laugh and find humor during the holidays is one of my favorite! And it goes without saying that a fun way to break the ice and crack a smile is to conjure up a good, ole fashioned face swap holiday dinner invitation!
This has been a simple, fun holiday tradition in our family of 5 for a few years now, and our kids really look forward to seeing the end result! From tracking down which pictures we’ll use to who we send the invites to, the entire process is a great way to remind ourselves to be thankful for the smiles in a world that can be so full of tears at times.
Just making it to the end of a day can sometimes seem almost impossible. We are taught from an early age to strive for such a high, almost unattainable level of perfection and success. Not to mention all the setbacks and letdowns which accompany us in this process we call “growing up.” It’s crazy, but it’s seemingly more common than not to see tears on faces rather than smiles. It’s less likely you’ll hear jokes and almost inevitable you’ll hear complaints. Sometimes creating pure comedy and laughter (even at your own expense) can be the most beneficial gift you can give!
Not only will opening up an invitation such as this be sure to lighten up the day for the recipient, it’s also a good reminder for our kids to remember the importance of keeping a humble attitude. It’s a great opportunity to be thankful that you are able to be vulnerable and silly in front of a world full of sought-after perfection. What wonders it does for the soul to not take life or yourself too seriously!
You’ll invite more than just friends and family to dinner with this holiday tradition, as you are sure to welcome tons of light-hearted, much-needed laughter and humbleness during the holiday season!
