I admit, I totally overcomplicated summer in the past!
You see I took to heart that saying, “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”.
So, I literally filled our calendar with activities for the sake of structure.
Because yes, structure has saved my sanity in so many ways before.
Because kids love structure, right?
But it was way too much.
Summers were so stressful.
To the point that I really wasn’t looking forward to them.
Because besides family vacation, summer felt like any other time of the year.
Busy, with absolutely no rest.
Fast-forward to today.
Summer is not so bad.
In fact, it’s pretty good.
And here’s why. I use this simple formula.
No, it’s not perfect.
And no, it’s not totally balanced.
But it makes for a good summer.
So here it is:
Fun + Rest + resolving in my soul that it is OKAY for the kids to be “bored” = A Good Summer!!
With FUN being anything from going to Disney to games in the backyard.
And everything in between.
Yes, I still plan but it’s much more fluid.
With me being much more intentional about adding in rest for both of us, as parents and the kids. Because we ALL need it.
So now, I welcome summers.
I’m glad it’s summer.
And it’s going to be a GREAT one!
