Today, I dropped off my last baby to Kindergarten. He walked proudly into the doors of his new school alongside his three siblings. I thought I might shed a tear as I did with his sister last year, but no tears streamed down my face. Some of the moms around me were tearing up - many who were sending theirs off for the first time. More than anything I was thrilled he was so excited to join his brother and sisters.

He was already familiar with the school, teachers, playground, and lunchroom. He’d be with the friends he had to say goodbye to at preschool last year.

I've had six full years at home with him. All those precious years have prepared him for this big day. And just as he needed me before Kindergarten, he’ll still need me now and in the future. The love he needs from me will never change.

Even though he doesn’t cuddle a lot anymore, he’s more independent, and doesn’t need help going potty I’ve loved watching him grow in each season of his development. And I’m excited to see what he’ll learn in Kindergarten, the friendships he’ll make, the lessons he’ll learn, how he’ll mature, and so much more.

Truth is, I’ve waited for this day for a long time as a stay-at-home mom. It’s the first time in ten years all four of my kids are in school together. The break from each other will be good for all of us. We’ve needed the routine and schedule. I'm a better mom when I've had some space from my children.

I love the feeling of a new school year and season of life, too.

I look forward to working on neglected projects, substituting at their school, writing, and taking care of myself and relationships. I look forward to being intentional with friendships and serving others. I look forward to the quiet and solitude time in my home so I’m ready to serve my kids at the end of the day.

Before my Kindergarten baby walked through the school doors, I gave him a big kiss and he returned several kisses on my cheek. I was proud to see him so brave and that he’s still not too grown up to show his momma some lovin’.
