Challenge: Why I Love My Mom Bod

I wear maternity pants, and I cannot lie. (And oh yeah, I'm not expecting)

I wear maternity pants, and I cannot lie.

Some other women might deny.

But when mom walks in with an itty-bitty waist

and a smile on her face --

it's cause she's wearing maternity pants.

Just sayin'.

Or is it just me?

I have to let you in on a little secret.

I love

-- scratch that --

I absolutely love wearing maternity leggings,

and I wear them like ninety-percent of the time.

There is something to be said for pants that take your stretch-mark decorated and loose pudge and making it look slightly leaner and tighter.

I typically wear mine in gray or black, because duh, but all (dark) colors suffice.

So, yep, I wear maternity pants though I am NOT expecting.

I should probably make that clear, so the hubs doesn't spit out his coffee as he reads this.

I am not expecting, but I do enjoy the heck out of rocking a pair of maternity leggings.

So much so that they are this consignment buying mama's only non-consignment splurge.

However, today, well, I got to wondering --

is it about time that I rock the slab I've got,

instead of covering the flab

and pretending to be someone I'm not --

someone fitter,

someone leaner,

someone less....well...squishy?

While we all, of course, should have body confidence no matter what, you gotta rock what makes you feel good in the body you've got and this, well, it's what works for me.

And it might sound super silly to you because you are rocking the body that you've got.

And, well, what works and feels right and comfortable for each of us, it's typically different.

So, no, I'm not telling you to rock maternity leggings, when you're not pregnant, but I am genuinely remarking that they are comfy as hell and you might want to give them a try.

Author's note: They also make great "eating pants."

And, if you don't want to, then at least give this a try:

Being someone who doesn’t give a hoot about how others think she should dress.

Being someone who dresses comfortably and in a way that makes her smile, even if others think she looks like an odd duck.

Being someone who feels comfortable in her skin, even if that skin of hers is more stretched and saggy than she would like.

Being someone who knows, and reminds herself daily, that what is important is not how she looks in her clothes, but how blessed she feels for the mostly healthy body underneath them.

Being someone who knows that an item of clothing can never hide the best part of who she is and what makes her attractive.

Whether you choose to take on your mothering days in leggings that are

tight,

loose,

made for expectant mothers,

covered in kid-snot

freshly cleaned,

or

(everyone gasps)

in pants that are not leggings,

just know that you are rocking it --

your being,

your look,

and motherhood.

You keep doing you, mama, and I'll keep doing me;

in my maternity leggings, of course.
