I gotta get something off my chest.
The Super Bowl halftime show made this mama feel like we need to start slapping a rating on the content we’re about to subject our family to. Now I’ll start by saying, I was thrilled at the announcement of the two halftime headliners this year. Those two ladies take me back to my college days in a hurry, bringing on a flood of fond memories of 2am last call moments and screaming Jenny-from-the-block at the top of my lungs with my besties.
But last night’s show left me with the urge to shield young eyes from the ladies I grew to love back in the day. I’m no stranger to provocative dance moves. My young boys have learned the meaning of twerking whether I like it or not. But bring a pole dance into the mix, and I’ve got to stop you right there. That moment that Jo-Lo was hanging upside down straddling a pole, had our 6 year old friend asking her mama, “oh wow, how do I do THAT?”
And when Jenny from the block bent over showing all of the world the glitzy, frilly, lace-whatever between her lady parts, I had to call a time-out and get my 8 year old son out of the room.
I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge football fan. Not only did I not know who was playing in the game until yesterday at kick-off, I even forgot it was Super Bowl Sunday until the mention of chips and queso came into my dinner plans. I attend the Super Bowl festivities solely for the binge worthy food, and my love for dance moves at halftime.
Call me prude, but I’d prefer to keep my son’s eyes away from pole dancing until he’s at least old enough to enter one of those places on his own (if ever-please God). But, no mama needs to be worried about those sights during a football game.
