The day will come when:
Sober isn't how you describe yourself.
Recovery isn't in your normal vocabulary.
Addict is not how people think of you.
"Recovering addict" isn't your identity.
NA meetings aren't what you live for.
You have new friends.
You think "wow, this is the life I never imagined".
Life is just normal life and addiction isn't a part of it.
People will stop saying congrats and good job and I'm proud of you, but it's okay. Because that old you is gone. And you don't need the accolades of people to keep going like you used to.
I remember thinking the first month would never end. And then the next, and the next. Everything was measured in increments of time, living for the next "milestone".
To my friends in the beginning of your sober life, there is a "other side". If you just endure through the hard years, better years will come. Where sober milestones disappear and its just your normal life.
