“I’ve got this, Mom,” is a phrase I keep hearing from my daughter over and over again.
A new phrase echoing from her lips where once she allowed me to take over.
A phrase so easily said but sometimes the history of the past makes it harder to do.
A phrase I soak in with pride rather than resentment.
A phrase which reassures me I have done a good job being her mom even though I doubt myself over and over again.
So for now, I’ll hear here say, “I’ve got this,” and silently squeal with delight at the independent daughter standing before me.
A young woman who takes matters into her own hands, while profound confidence mixed with splashes of love navigate her day.
“I’ve got this, Mom.”
No sweeter words have ever graced my ears as I watch her slowly walk away, while patiently waiting for her return.
