Little eyes are always watching ...
The way we look at ourselves in the mirror.
When we try to sneak to the kitchen for a snack without them noticing.
When we try to run to the bathroom without little pitter-patters trailing behind us.
How we greet our spouse when they return home.
Little ears are always listening ...
To the way we talk to and about others.
To the music and tv shows we watch.
To the way and when we choose to pray.
Little tongues are always mimicking ...
Our choice of coping mechanisms.
How we respond when we are angry.
The way we press on or the way we fall in defeat.
The things we value most.
The lyrics we belt in the shower when we think no one is listening.
The way we handle and apologize for our mistakes. Because we are human and will make lots of them.
Little feet are always following ...
In the way we lead our family.
To the people and things WE follow.
To the way we do something that someone asks of us.
To the things we hold near and dear to our hearts.
Parenthood is no simple task, and it is one that should not be taken lightly or for granted.
Sure, it’s tiring and chaotic and often repetitive ... but it’s an adventure that will change us and shape them into the amazing world-changers we know God created them to be.
That makes me think twice about the way I talk to my husband, the way I look at myself in the mirror, and the way I choose to prioritize things in my life.
Little eyes may always be watching and little ears might always be listening, but our hearts should never stop growing and inviting them in.
