I originally went into premature labor 10 weeks early having to be flown from our home in Lake Havasu Coty, AZ to Phoenix, AZ. At that time they were able to stop my labor until I was 34 weeks along when I went into labor again. At this time they made the decision not to stop my labor and go ahead allow things to flow naturally. My youngest son was born at 34 weeks and of course sent to the NICU. The only problem was my son was already 7lbs at that time. So I had to walk by all the other much smaller babies and their parents to spend time with my son. I remember the looks from the other parents wondering why my child was in the NICU considering his size. Though he was 7 lbs he was still very sick, underdeveloped lungs, not being able to breathe and eat at the same time. But I must say the best support came from the NICU nurses. NICU nurses are special people, they take care of very sick babies and their anxious parents day in and day out. My son was a very sick little baby for the first several years of his life but has grown into a wonderful healthy 15 yr old. Thank you to all the NICU nurses and doctors at Phoenix Children's Hospital and throughout the world.
