We are pretty much Halloween fanatics at this house, so when I heard that the Today Parenting Team Challenge was Halloween costumes, I had a bit of a war with myself to figure out which of our costumes I would share with you all.
It really was no contest, as this has been one of the most pinned and re-pinned posts on my blog.
My all-time favorite DIY Halloween costume is my daughter's steampunk-inspired Mad Hatter costume, I called Mad Haute.
This costume was a mix of store-bought pieces (the clip-on hat, the striped tights), crafty pieces (the tutu, the big bow tie) and things we found in our closets (the top, the vest, the shoes and a pair of winter gloves we cut the fingers off of.)
My daughter (the age 9) loved wearing the smokey eye shadow, mascara, and burgundy lipstick. Now almost 14, she has become quite the expert at winged eyeliner. I might need to take a lesson.
This giant tutu took 9 yards of tulle. There's a link in my blog to a tutorial.
If I were to recreate this today, I would have her wear a pair of combat boots.
Happy Halloween, friends! xx
