On November 5, 2017 at Pacific Park on the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, more than 2,000 guests gathered to support UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital at the 18th Annual Mattel Party on the Pier. My daughter Taylor was thrilled to attend the event. UCLA is the hospital group that services her for the epileptic seizures she has suffered from for the past year.

More than 65 young influencers and celebrities greeted fans and took photos with them in the interactive selfie station and volunteered at game booths stocked with toys donated by Mattel. Celebrities like Ruby Rose Turner (”Fuller House”); Rico Rodriguez (“Modern Family”) and Tia Mowry were there to greet fans.

Actress and mom Tia Mowry discussed the importance of the event. “Family has always been first for me and I can’t imagine what it is like to have a child with a life-threatening illness," says Mowry. "That’s why it’s important for me to support the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, because their talented teams dedicate every day to sick children and their families right in our back yard."

Guests enjoyed the Power of Play area, sponsored by the Goldhirsh-Yellin Foundation, where kids enjoyed complimentary glitter tattoos and hair braiding compliments of Skechers, Yoobi arts & crafts. All attendees were treated to unlimited rides and game booths with toys donated from Mattel for the fun filled day.

Net proceeds from ticket sales and monies raised from #MattelPOP benefit UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. Mattel Party on the Pier has provided unrestricted funding to launch high-priority programs and support innovative research discoveries that benefit children being treated at UCLA and around the world. Recent support has been directed towards clinical trials for teen and young adult patients in the pediatric hematology/oncology division, the development of new therapies for pediatric patients suffering from leukemias and lymphomas, and to support research in pediatric cancer predisposition and precision medicine.
