Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have prayed and held onto the hope that my family would come out better on the other side of it.
We’ve had amazing days filled with long, carefree bike rides that include wading in creeks we normally rush past. We’ve had frustrating “school” days where we all want to just quit trying to do anything educational at home. Sometimes, we just get on each other’s nerves because we spend too much time together.
Then, out of nowhere, my kids ask me if they can write letters and send money to the local hospital to help fight COVID.
Their kindness stops me in my tracks. I stand in awe of their thoughtfulness and compassion for others.
My two oldest counted their money and wrote letters. They addressed their letters to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.
I wish I could’ve been there when the person in the donation office opened these letters.
Dear Nurses & Doctors,
I hope this money helps fight COVID-19. I thank you for all that you are doing to help the patients. I hope all is well!
We thank you,
Bailey
Her letter included a drawing of a mask and the word superhero. She knows who the real heroes are in this pandemic!
Dear Doctor,
This is Ethan. I sent fifteen dollars. Give these dollars [to] the kid who is most in need. So he or she can spend it at the gift shop. Thank you for all you do.
Love,
Ethan
While missing their friends and losing life experiences like summer camp and end-of-the-year school activities, my kids chose to bless others. I never asked them to do this. They did it all on their own.
I think that we are definitely going to come out better and stronger on the other side of this pandemic.
