Parents, you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Or just as likely, we’ve got questions and you’ve got answers.

One day, I hope to be friends with my daughter.

I hope that the same little girl who likes to help me make tea,
Will one day call me for coffee.

Right now,
Mine is the only number she knows.

And I hope she won’t forget how to use it,
When she learns how to dial so many others.

I hope that she doesn’t stop telling me
what she thinks she can’t tell me.

I hope at 2 a.m.,
When her tire is flat,
I’m the one she knows will answer.

I don’t want to go through preteen years where I’m not cool,
and she is cold.

I don’t want fro-yo trips
to stop solving all our problems,

I hope she calls because she can’t remember how to make green bean casserole.

And I hope she calls because she did remember.

I hope she texts me after bad dates.

And I hope she sends me all the screenshots.

I hope that when the time comes for her not to need me,
That she decides that she still wants me.

One day, I hope to be friends with my daughter.
