Not long after our first son turned one my husband suggested that I take one night a week to do something just for me. Since I can remember I have always loved dancing but never learned ballet. I started taking ballet once a week and quickly found that just one hour a week made me a better Mom. I returned from class revitalized and feeling that I found a place where I could just be me. No diapers, no dishes, just the wood floor and me. When I joined my first class it was just me and one other Mom . The following year we had 15 women learning ballet. At 29 years old and 4 months pregnant I was in my first ballet recital.
I still dance today and cherish my one hour a week that I dedicate to me.
Whatever it is: running, painting, singing, hiking, find something that is truly about you and let yourself have that despite the long "to do" list waiting at home. Happy Mommy=Happy Kids.
