The thought of sending our kids back to school is daunting for us all. Now rather than "where's my backpack," it's "where's my mask." But the experience I am about to share with you, will put in to perspective, a more hopeful scenario. You know that old saying, "you never know how good you have it until you leave the United States?" Covid in areas of the world that are underserved struggle not with "where's my mask," they struggle with the opportunity to be schooled. Girls in underserved areas of India, would risk anything for the opportunity to be schooled, Covid or no Covid. Vaccine availability is sparse, and remote learning is impossible for those without wifi. Hand washing stations are limited and medical, that much more challenging. When we think about how vigilantly the schools are addressing Covid, and the fact that we are all educated parents, our likelihood of a safe school year is ahead for us I believe. Sometimes, (and we all know our parents walked five miles to school barefoot and in the snow!), sharing the challenges of others, does give us perspective.
